Window washing consultant earns $20,000

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - We're continuing to examine the ways tax dollars are being spent at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. We've learned the group plans to spend $20,000 on what is being called a "window washing consultant." The news did not sit well with Owen, owner of C&H Garage in Orlando.

"Well I think we ought to do the logical thing. If the windows are dirty, just wash 'em and get it over with. If they're not just keep the $20,000, and forget it.... I'd like to have some of the 20 grand though. I think the windows are OK."

The money will not actually be used to tell people how to wash the windows once the $383 million building is complete. It will go to having a consultant come in and explain where to put anchors on the roof. Those anchors would then be used to hold the window washers safely as they hang and clean the windows.

This money is being spent in the hopes of preventing an accident that would bring in the federal agency OSHA. There is also a $5,000 line that would cover any expenses the consultant would incur. The contract has not yet been awarded.
